Nark - a new blog

Glass Obelisk has just launched a new blog. This one isn’t focussed on the web or technology but is squarely aimed at the teenage to thirty demographic, students, young professionals and the ilk.

Meet Nark.com.au all about fashion, food, lifestyle, movies - you name it. Over the coming weeks we’re going to be posting a whole swag of content, but it already has a host of articles and reviews.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this goes. Fingers are crossed :-).

Useful web resources

I know I love reading good compilations of useful websites and web resources on other blogs, so I felt it was time to give back a little and post one of my own.

crystal_clear_sharemanager.pngWhenever I need a good icon I always check out the crystal clear icon set by Everaldo Coelho and YellowIcon

beta.jpgWeb 2.0 Badges. To be honest I haven’t used the site for any projects or websites of mine, but it does look good and is fun to play around with. Certainly the options are typical of any web 2.0 design… have to have those badges, right?

gif_load.gifLoading GIFs are also pretty cool these days. I have used a couple of these myself and they work quite well. Note: they’re not all as ugly as this massive one I found.

Fonts, fonts, wonderful fonts. For a better list than I could compile on free fonts I recommend checking out Smashing Magazine’s 40 excellent free fonts list. It’s pretty excellent.

Want to create a favicon? I posted a tutorial on how to set one up and this is the tool to simplify the process for you.

This other collection of useful web design tools might come in handy too.

There is also this other really long list of resources for web design. It’s a bit boring and difficult to wade through, but it does have some great links in there.

Hope all these links and resources help. Enjoy.

Microsoft Offers Yahoo! $31 per Share

yahoo_ms.jpgYesterday Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ballmer, announced that Microsoft was proposing the acquisition of Yahoo! for $31 per share (a 62% premium on its then current trading price). The bid represents a value of $44.6 billion for Yahoo!

The Microsoft press release can be found here.

The move is not surprising and has been expected for at least the last six months. Microsoft could bring some organisation to beleaguered Yahoo! and turn the company around into a profitable online business. Yahoo’s advertising divisions are an obvious incentive in the deal for Microsoft, with MS not yet finding a strong hold on the online advertising market.

Now we wait to see how Yahoo! responds.
